Urban Adamah welcomes community members of all ages back to the farm

Urban Adamah is reopening! It already wrapped up its first week of summer camp and recently welcomed over 100 participants back to the farm for its first public program since March 2020. The urban farm has also created a new community fridge to help food insecure neighbors. Watch their recent update:

Koret-sponsored researchers discover drastic Hellenistic-era sea level change in ancient Israel

Marine archaeology researchers at the universities of Haifa and California, San Diego have discovered that sea levels in Israel rose 2 meters during the Hellenistic period. The drastic change resulted in loss of infrastructure that may give a window into the future effects of climate change, reports the Jerusalem Post.

IsraAID has been at the forefront of the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching more than 8 million people across 17 countries worldwide. Now, IsraAID is turning its attention to India, and will provide urgent support to Indian hospitals and healthcare workers as the country faces a devastating wave of COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations, and deaths.

Marine archaeology collaboration celebrates opening of field station

The bilateral collaboration between UC San Diego’s Scripps Center for Marine Archaeology and the University of Haifa’s Recanati Institute for Maritime Studies recently celebrated the opening of its joint marine archaeology field station in Akko, Israel. An announcement was shared at the virtual celebration that the collaboration was also awarded the 2021 CENIC Innovations in Networking Award for Research Applications.

How archaeologists are using hi-tech during the coronavirus era

Harnessing the capabilities of two major research institutions, teams from the University of Haifa and the Scripps-Center for Marine Archaeology at UCSD are partnering on underwater excavations in 2020. Shalem announces appointment of Russ Roberts as next president

Russ Roberts, American economist and public intellectual, will assume the role of President of Israel’s Shalem College in March 2021. In a country in which higher education has historically emphasized specialization, Shalem College is pursuing a bold alternative: the cultivation of citizens for lives of influence and service, and not merely careers. Roberts plans to focus on enhancing the classroom experience and recruiting more top-level faculty to join Shalem’s community of scholars and teachers.

Bay Area volunteers deliver food for Israeli relief agency

IsraAid—an Israeli international relief agency that provides aid during crises and natural disasters—is also addressing food insecurity during the coronavirus pandemic. Working locally with Koret grantees Second Harvest of Silicon Valley and the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, IsraAid is organizing volunteers from the Jewish community to assist in various ways from San Francisco down to San Jose.
