Responding to a dire lack of basic water access for people experiencing homelessness, St. Anthony’s has opened a Hygiene Hub, where guests can shower, use the restroom, and do their laundry in a safe, calm environment. Housed in St. Anthony’s building on 150 Golden Gate Avenue, the new facility promises to be a game-changer, providing 20,000 showers and 10,000 laundered loads annually.

Jewish Story Partners (JSP), the rapidly growing, Los Angeles-based non-profit film funding organization, announced its second round of grantees today. This new slate brings JSP’s 2021 granting total to $500,000, distributed among 27 projects. JSP supports the highest caliber independent films that use fresh, nuanced perspectives to tell stories about the diverse spectrum of Jewish experiences, cultures, and encounters.

This special program of The Willesden Project, the Koret supported global education initiative, will bring the power of music, story, and testimony to young people globally as it reshapes Holocaust education and fosters resilience in youth.

BADM has unveiled five new exhibitions and playspaces geared toward children under the age of 10. The spaces, which opened following the museum’s $20M BOLD capital campaign, are based on the cutting-edge research in childhood development to inspire creativity and exploration. Exhibits include the a new climbing structure Gumnut Grove, and new exploration spaces called How Things Work which, Try It Studio, and a new Tot Spot.

125 vulnerable Afghans arrived in Albania after being evacuated from Afghanistan to a neighboring country following a weeks-long collaborative humanitarian effort from IsraAID alongside governments, aid organizations, activists, and donors. This is the second evacuation from Afghanistan the group has coordinated, following the arrival of 42 vulnerable women, girls, and family members to the UAE on September 6th. USC Shoah Foundation launched a redesigned IWitness website, reimagined to make teaching with testimony more effective, approachable, and cutting-edge.

“The Girl in the Diary: Searching for Rywka from the Lodz Ghetto” opened at the HMC in Farmington Hills this week. The exhibit, which is traveling the US on loan from the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow, Poland, tells the story of Rywka Lipszyc, a teenage girl experiencing life in the Lodz Ghetto. The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank celebrated the groundbreaking of an expansion to its San Francisco warehouse, which will add an additional 32,000 square feet of space to respond to skyrocketing need and expand fresh produce offerings. Watch on ABC7:

“The Girl in the Diary: Searching for Rywka from the Łódź Ghetto,” an exhibition at the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus in cooperation with the Galicia Jewish Museum, Kraków, Poland, will be on display from July 29 through December 30, 2021.

The San Francisco Opera is opening again at the War Memorial Opera House on August 21. This season is Eun Sun Kim’s debut as the new Music Director, and will feature three blockbuster operas scheduled, with a gradual opening and some hybrid virtual performances. Proof of vaccination is required for entry.

teamLab: Continuity is the first exhibition in the museum’s new Akiko Yamazaki and Jerry Yang Pavilion. The fully immersive interactive and sensory experience is rooted in traditional Japanese art.
