Music@Menlo Launches Summer Concert Series
Music@Menlo launches an ambitious 23rd summer season in July, continuing a rich tradition of world-class classical music programming at Menlo School. This summer’s theme is Constellations: Ensemble Magic, which matches classic literature with chamber music from the 18th century to the present day.
The program consists of seven programs offering diverse performances ranging from duos, quartets, quintets, and vocals, designed to showcase the scope of chamber music. Of particular note is the Koret Young Performers Concerts. These performances feature extraordinary young musicians, aged 11-19.
In addition to featuring world-class music, the series is designed to create a greater appreciation for classical music. To that end, audiences can participate in “Encounters” a series in which musicologists, educators, and musicians delve deeply into the summer’s theme. The speakers are able to provide historical and musical context for the performances which deepen the audience’s appreciation for the music and performances. The series also features a visual artist partner. This year’s partner is Mark Chen, a prolific photographer whose work focuses on the intersection of people and nature.
Music@Menlo’s mission is to engage and sustain an audience for chamber music and to provide young musicians with educational opportunities. It provides intimate concerts where audience members can appreciate the artistry of performers and young musicians can develop a love of music.
