UC Press: promoting academic discourse

Bridget J. Crawford, coeditor of Social Movements and the Law, UC Press production editor Stephanie Summerhays, Lolita Buckner Inniss, coeditor of Social Movements and the Law, and Jamie R. Abrams, author of Inclusive Socratic Teaching, at the Law and Society Association Annual Conference, 2024.

In September, Koret was proud to support the UC Press, an organization whose timely and relevant publications unite curious readers with the academic world. The UC Press has existed for over 130 years and publishes in the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences, moving the needle of scholarly discourse with each publication.

Koret has provided general operating support to the UC Press over the past several years, which supports the publication of a diverse set of books and articles. In the past year, the UC Press published 24 books by UC-affiliated authors, including “Is Grad School for Me? Demystifying the Application Process for First-Gen BIPOC Students” by Miroslava Chavez-Garcia and Yvette Martinez-Vu and 2024 Scholarship Nahum M. Sarna Memorial Award-winning “Fractured Tablets: Forgetfulness and Fallibility in Late Ancient Rabbinic Culture” by Mira Balberg.

The UC Press reflects the Koret Foundation’s long-standing commitment to higher education and strong promotion of academic discourse. Additionally, the publisher shares Koret’s commitment to first-generation scholars, launching the FirstGen program, which nurtures and amplifies the voices of those who are the first in their families to receive a college degree.
