Sea Lions have attracted visitors to Pier 39 since 1989, but the new Sea Lion Spot opened by the Marine Mammal Center offers new ways to engage with and learn about the animals. Staff and volunteers from the Center will be there to talk with visitors about the sea lions and share how we can all take action to keep them safe. Upstairs, in a space overlooking the sea lions, guests are welcome daily from 11am to 6pm to explore a special pop-up educational experience.

“This is such an amazing opportunity to see wild sea lions in our own backyard,” said Adam Ratner, associate director of conservation education at the Marine Mammal Center. “So many people come to Pier 39 to see the animals. How do we help them take that next step as an environmental steward as a result of their visit?”

The Sea Lion Spot will be a hub for all things sea lion, with a state-of-the-art permanent exhibit opening up in the Spring of 2024. Read more about the new Sea Lion Spot and plan your visit here.
