Get to know the garden experts that make our parks beautiful
Jason Martinez and Pat Quinn are gardeners and horticulturists for the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department. They met when they were both working at the SF Botanical Garden, and have each been with Rec & Parks for over 20 years. We asked them about their favorite parts of the job.
Pat told us that he loves all of the paths that weave through the park grounds, especially having a hand in making them. He loves creating a sense of adventure for the park’s explorers, and that you never know what might be around the curve.
Jason expressed his appreciation for the diversity of plant selections and plantings throughout the Parks. He also loves how there are so many different gardens, each with their own personality. His personal favorites are the botanicals and the wildness of the West End of the Park.
Koret’s commitment to the SF community doesn’t end with the award of a grant. It’s important to us that our staff give back in other ways as well. To that end, our team of nine headed out to the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden in Golden Gate Park for a volunteer day of habitat restoration with the SF Rec & Parks department.
