Celebrating Passover across the Bay Area

Passover begins at sundown Monday, April 22, and once again local congregations and other organizations will host events, ranging from traditional Seders to themed holiday gatherings.

Most of the events listed below require reservations or tickets purchased in advance. Some Seders are free for young children, and others note that financial constraints are not a barrier to participation. Check out the list below to find a Seder or Passover event near you!


Monday, April 22

JCCSF — First-night seder led by Rabbi Batshir Torchio and song leader Jonathan Bayer with kosher-style dinner catered by Mangia Nosh. Menu includes vegetarian matzah ball soup, brisket, mashed potato and acorn squash puree, sauteed spring vegetables, grilled salmon, portabella mushroom stuffed with diced vegetables and dessert. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free options. At JCCSF, 3200 California St. 6-9:30 p.m. $150 adults, $100 subsidized, $75 community access, $50 kids 12 and under.

Oshman Family JCC — Community seder with kosher-style Passover buffet. At OFJCC, 3921 Fabian Way, Palo Alto. 5-7 p.m. $30.


Tuesday, April 23

Congregation Beth Shalom — Second-night seder catered by Blossom Catering. Menu includes chicken matzah ball soup, braised chicken thighs, glazed baby carrots and coconut macaroons. Register by April 19. At Congregation Beth Shalom of Napa Valley, 1455 Elm St., Napa. 5:30 p.m. $65 adults, $35 teens, kids 12 and under free.— Second-night seder catered by Blossom Catering. Senior Passover Seder Gathering — Holiday event for seniors (60+) led by Rabbi Batshir Torchio and Maggid Jhos Singer with Haggadah reading, singing and kosher meal. Register by April 4. At JCCSF, 3200 California St. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. $12.


Sunday, April 28

Kids Freedom Seder — Community seder for families with kids 12 and under with singing, dancing, learning, dinner, discussion and afikomen scavenger hunt. At Urban Adamah, 1151 Sixth St., Berkeley. 3-6:15 p.m. $25-$54, sliding scale.


Thursday, May 2

Mimouna: A Moroccan Jewish Celebration—Traditional festival celebrated by Moroccan Jews to mark the end of Passover. With live music, dancing and traditional Moroccan sweets. Presented by JIMENA. At JCCSF, 3200 California St. 7-10 p.m.
