University of San Francisco

The San Francisco Bay Area is known for technology, innovation, and the cultivation of the next generation of pioneers. One of the area’s oldest educational institutions, the University of San Francisco asserts itself as a leader in the scientific field with the recent opening of its future-focused John Lo Schiavo, S.J. Center for Science and Innovation.

Named for one of the university’s most beloved educators and leaders, the center replaces Harney Science Hall, which had seen little renovation since its doors opened in 1965. The study of science has since changed dramatically, and the new building will showcase the latest in technological advances, with sophisticated computing laboratories and hands-on classrooms that allow cutting-edge training for modern medicine and biotechnology.

USF undergraduate students already have a lot going for them: they outpace the national average of acceptance into medical schools and top-tier Ph.D. programs. This center will refocus the core of the university on science and discovery, positioning USF as a leading destination for scientific study in a region dominated by science and technology.

Koret has enjoyed a long and constructive partnership with USF, supporting the university’s growth and modernization since the foundation’s early days over 30 years ago. By providing significant capital support for this project—over $2.5M—Koret is an important partner with USF in contributing to the region’s vitality. We look forward to seeing what great discoveries will occur within its walls.
